This August, we made tiles with children and families at the Kateri Park Recreational Program. Elementary-school-age children who live there attend Grout. Some of the children are Somali Bantu, Somali, Oromo, Nepalese and Burmese, and our mural will celebrate their home languages.
The children created leaf tiles and many lovely faces that will soon be looking out from the mural wall!
We had a tremendous time, thanks to the more than 20 volunteers who signed on to help us through Hands On Greater Portland as well as several students from Portland State University and Lewis & Clark College. Thank you, also, to Elisabeth Gern, Resident Services Coordinator at Kateri Park, who makes so much happen.
